The panel of the Hottest MC is assembled by MTV Base and takes place on an MTV Base round table. MTV Base is a credible brand in promoting artists which makes their Hottest MC list an affair that extends beyond TV onto various social networks.
Nasty C trended on twitter as a hot topic for a while after the list was released which clearly showed music fans were dissatisfied as to why was he not on no. 1 having appeared on the biggest music platforms on TV, Radio in UK, USA and Germany and also performed in shows that had thousands of people overseas alongside Ferg, Lil Pump,Giggs etc.
The MTV Base hottest MC stirs up so much controversy and twitter wars in such a way that emotions run high among artists and fans. At one stage AKA once angrily stated: "Don't put me on your f%$#n list" in 2017. Some may wonder why such a list has to be published as it brews unnecessary controversy and rivalry that can cause a lot of damage.
The list, which is meant to recognise the MC's or rappers that have owned the year in music, projects, presence, bars and a lot of things in between didn't disappoint in ramping up the controversy.
Here is the final list that was released by a panel made by Scoop Makhathini, Miss Cosmo, Sandile Ntshingila, Zay Maya, DJ Capital.
- Kwesta
- AKA
- Nasty C
- Cassper Nyovest
- Rouge
- Shane Eagle
- Anatii
- Riky Rick
- Moozlie
- Nadia Nakai
An EMCEE is also a term that describes someone that uses poetry through beats to express artistry. The term is not associated with any monetary accomplishments through sponsorship deals an artist may attain.
AKA and Kwesta took to twitter to compliment each other after the panel had announced the provisional list whereby AKA was placed on number 3 which was later changed to no. 2:
Champ. You’re number 1 on my list everyday of the week. 🏆 https://t.co/g6AfYDcOCt— AKA (@akaworldwide) December 6, 2018
One would expect that Cassper would have made his own views heard regarding not being named at no. 1 this year after a successful performance he gave us for the Global Citizens festival at FNB stadium plus a courageous attempt to #FillUpMosesMabhida in a city with some artists who were clearly hostile but he instead made a surprise endorsement pointing out he thought Nasty C deserved the top spot which in turn made Kwesta also bring A Reece into the fray whom was not nominated among the top 10.
We can say the same for @reece_youngking... He made some major moves too & showed great work ethic with a tenth of the resources, if we’re being completely honest! https://t.co/Nymb39s0RX— 🙏🏾 #K1Ggg #VurVai (@KwestaDaKAR) December 7, 2018
From that point it was clear this was turning out to be a war of words as Nasty C posted a series of emotional twits clearly irked at the decision of the MTV Base Hottest MC panel:
They’re gonna make me start posting all my streams/ sales numbers, all my plaques, international features, all my songwriting AND production credits.. don’t do that— “CATCH IT” OUT NOW (@Nasty_CSA) December 7, 2018
Sold out Tour dates? Shows in 34 Cities worldwide (excluding SA) in a couple months ? ONE MAN SHOWS OUTSIDE THE CONTINENT?... Stop trying me— “CATCH IT” OUT NOW (@Nasty_CSA) December 7, 2018
All my “first South African artist to...”s.. is that what u want?— “CATCH IT” OUT NOW (@Nasty_CSA) December 7, 2018
Do you think Kwesta is the best MC in South Africa in 2018? What has he accomplished that surpassed all the other rappers in 2018? If not who do you think deserved the number 1 spot?Way things are looking, artist are gonna start being rated based off Who follows them on SM— “CATCH IT” OUT NOW (@Nasty_CSA) December 7, 2018
